Some of Bandwango’s most successful trails are our check-in challenges, which encourage passholders to visit locations and check in using their mobile passport. Each check-in gets the passholder closer to winning prizes. While the process is seamless for the passholder, a lot of thought goes into how to manage prizes for Bandwango trails. 

Choosing your prize could seem straightforward, but there are a few things you want to consider before you decide on the swag you want to give passholders.

1. Budget

 

Your total prize budget can dictate which prizes you choose, but also how long you are able to distribute prizes for. 

While you can always add language like “While supplies last” to your Bandwango passport offering, you want to consider how long your passport will be in market. If your gamified pass is not able to offer prizes after only 6 months in market, you may see the success of that pass decline. 

The cost of the Bandwango license does not include prizes. 

2. Cool Factor

 

You want the prize to be enticing, of course! Some popular prize options include:

  • Tumblers
  • Mugs
  • Art prints
  • Stickers

3. Tiers

 

Some passports or trails choose to have different prizes for different checkpoints. This tiered prizing model can keep passholders interested in checking in and lead to more check-ins overall. 

An example of tiered prizing is Visit Dublin, Ohio’s Celtic Cocktail Trail, which rewards passholders for stopping into 6 stops with a commemorative koozie. Those who complete 12 stops score an exclusive Celtic Cocktail Trail t-shirt!

4. Distribution

 

How are you planning to get prizes into passholders’ hands? Clients can choose to ship prizes directly to passholders or offer local pick-up. 

Prizes available for local pick-up are a great way to drive traffic into visitor centers or partner locations. For example, Tourism Kamloops partners with Bigfoot Trading Co.’s brick and mortar store to offer the exclusive t-shirt for their Pickle Pursuit.

If storing swag is a concern, this may not be the best option. 

If you are hoping to ship prizes, you may want to consider swag that is not breakable or is less expensive to ship.
